Microsoft updates the annual amount of the BREP from 16 to 17%.

ollowing in the wake of the NCE, Microsoft has proceeded to update the amount it charges its customers annually for BREP, as indicated on its own website:

Dynamics Enhancement Plan and Advantage Plan. For the first time Microsoft is adjusting prices of our Customer Services and Support plans. Effective October 1, 2022, pricing for Dynamics Enhancement Plan (EP) and Dynamics Advantage Plan (AP) will increase by 1% of Protected List Price (PLP). This change will impact the customer's first renewal after October 1. For example, the list price of the Enhancement Plan will change from 16% to 17% of a customer's PLP. This change does not impact Advantage Plus or Software Assurance (SA) plans. For more information about plans, see Microsoft Dynamics Customer Services Guide (PSBC access required).

As most customers renew their licence at the beginning of the year, this change has had little impact. Please see this URL for more details.

But... What is the BREP and what is it for?

The BREP is an annual fee that helps you protect the investment you made in the purchase of the product and also improves user productivity. This service plan is charged directly by Microsoft, like any manufacturer, to help maximise the value of our solutions.  On the other hand, it also provides great benefits to customers by facilitating access to an almost unlimited amount of resources that help the user to improve their training in the use of the platform. For this reason, it is recommended that all customers of a Microsoft Dynamics licence keep their plan up to date and thus have access to all the new features and functional improvements of their product.

The dizzying pace of technological evolution drags us all along and forces us to be permanently updated. If we are not, we will soon become obsolete or out of step with our competitors.  The same is true of business management technology. Clearly Microsoft, as the spearhead in this sector, is the first company to reflect this trend in its products. Hence the most important value provided by its service plan (BREP): accessibility to any present or future technology within the Dynamics ecosystem. In other words, it prevents us from finding ourselves in a technological gap in the market.

But this is not the only thing it provides, there are many other benefits of Microsoft's BREP, for example:

1. It helps to maintain the most current version of the product, which has an impact on improving the performance, speed and productivity of your ERP.

2. Extends the lifecycle of your product and allows you to improve your ROI by extending your investment over a longer period of time.

3. Ensures that your product is legally compliant, as Microsoft takes care of keeping your product compliant with existing regulations.

4. Renewing your service plan annually will help you maintain your price and not be susceptible to future rate fluctuations. So you will be able to have a long term financial planning and forecasting of the investment.

5. Improve the efficiency of users with different learning and training mechanisms such as "Customer Source", online training and access to Microsoft community communication platforms where you can ask specific questions that can be solved by other users.

What happens if you do not pay the BREP?

If at some point you want to risk not renewing your BREP or you have already cancelled it and want to re-enrol, you should first know that you will have to catch up on all the fees you have avoided and, in addition, assume a surcharge in compensation for the time of inactivity.

Likewise, you should consider that when you want to re-enrol, the value of the licence will be updated to the value that corresponds at that moment. If you previously paid a lower amount, this will not be maintained and will be updated to the one in force at the time of your reinstatement. This is very important to know before you make your decision.

As you can see, maintaining the service plan quota is important if you want your investment in Microsoft Dynamics products to be as profitable and efficient as possible. In any case, if you have a Dynamics solution and you want to analyse your quota in more detail or know what to do if you do not currently have an updated BREP, we suggest you contact our support team and we will be happy to help you!
